After School Sailing Club

Next clubs starts week commencing 6th September 2010

We offer an After School Sailing Club for your youngsters to get more involved in sailing and enhance water confidence and water safety awareness.  We work towards the RYA Youth Sailing Schemes whereby certificates are awarded.

The RYA (Royal Yachting Association) recommended age for starting sailing lessons is 8 years.

We hold a license from the Adventure Activities Licensing Authority (The AALA) which covers us for activities for children under 16 years old and pride ourselves on only requiring tri-annual inspections (the highest no. of years possible).  We are also governed by The RYA regulations, which is the National Governing Body for sailing who inspect us annually.  We are also recognised By Cornwall Outdoors and the county as a provider of outdoor activities.  Copies of our risk assessments and any of the above certifications are available if required.

The club runs 3 times a year including, just after Easter, just after May half term and then in September.  The club starts at 4.30pm and finishes at 7pm.  We already have all levels of sailors who attend from novice through to the advanced racers and will be grouped accordingly.  They must commit to a block of 5 weeks and the cost will be £13 per child per week i.e. £65 for the total number of sessions.  (RYA log books are an additional £4.00).  At the moment we have a club running on Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays.

We will provide a wetsuit and all safety gear for this, including buoyancy aids etc.  We don't provide footwear and so they will need something that they don't mind getting wet, e.g. some wetshoes or crocs, or a pair of trainers.  We cannot permit barefoot sailing unfortunately.  They will need a bathing costume for underneath the wetsuit and a towel.  We also suggest a large snack and drink.

Payment would be due in advance for the duration.  If you are interested in the club then I could supply a poster which you could include in your newsletter/notice board if preferred.  We can come into the school to do a small presentation with a slide show of photos to show the children the kind of boats that they would be sailing on, if you are interested in this then just let me know.

The parents would contact us direct for booking etc. and also make their own arrangements for transport, so there will be minimal administration to the school.

Please don’t hesitate to contact me to discuss the above or other options either by email or calling me on the number above.

I hope this answers everything you need to know, if not then please don't hesitate to contact me.
